UPSR leak: Four teachers detained, say cops
KUALA LUMPUR: Sunday evening, four teachers in connection to the leak of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) English and Science exam papers have been arrested.
At 3.30 pm Saturday, the four (three men and one woman) were detained in a series of raids by the Kuala Lumpur Contingent police which are from Parit Buntar and Penang primary school teachers.
SAC Gan Kong Meng, Kuala Lumpur CID director said that the teachers are aged between 30 and 54 years.
After investigations revealed they were involved in the leak, they will be brought to Kuala Lumpur Sunday night, and police are predictable to apply for a remand order for them on Monday.
Police have recorded the statements of 10 individuals (a journalist, three primary school teachers, and six officers in the Education Ministry's Malaysian Exam Syndicate) in connection to the leaks.
After reports were lodged over the leak of UPSR English and Science papers, police had formed a special task force and the Education Ministry has said that the students will resit the papers on Sept 30.
“The independent committee set up by the Ministry would look at ways to improve the Examinations Syndicate, especially on the parts of security and secrecy,” said Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
After the leak, the Examinations Syndicate Principal Dr Na'imah Ishak and second-in-command Dr Wan Ilias Wan Salleh were suspended.
