Courtesy of event sponsor XCOR Space Expeditions, the
special prize was awarded to Sullivan after hitting the shot with his nine-iron
at the 15th hole of the Kennemer Golf & Country Club’s course.
The space flight company introduced the special prize to promo the profile of
the business. Starting from the end of next year, they will be giving an opportunity
for space tourist to travel beyond the limits of Earth.
CEO of XCOR Space Expeditions, Michiel Mol has told the
public that they wish to alert the public of this extraordinary opportunity,
now that it is available in our time.
Sullivan joked around, saying he wasn’t “the best flyer”,
but would calm his nerves for the 30-minute journey to 330,000 feet.
The ex Walker Cup player ended the final round with a 67 to
place third behind eventual winner Paul Casey.
The total worth of the prize is said to be around the
$100,000 mark, adding to the
career performances of a player whose largest single European Tour winnings
until now is €166,600
