Florida, United States- A teenage girl
who was suffering from aching stomach cramps in hospital was discovered to be
permeated with tapeworms. She was fed tapeworm eggs under her knowledge by her
mother to make her lose weight for a beauty pageant.
When the teenage girl was taken to an
emergency room in a hospital, with severe stomach ache, nurses thought that she
could be pregnant, but an ultrasound proved that she was not.
Nurses did notice
that her intestines were swollen. After the girl used the toilet, the ache
discontinued and the nurses found out the real source of her ache.
Her ER nurse,
Maricar Cabral-Osori, reported seeing long tapeworms struggling to escape in
the toilet bowl. “It was a toilet bowl full of tapeworms,” said Cabral-Osori to
the TV programme Untold Stories of the ER.
“It was so gross,
she had pooped all these tapeworms. There were a couple that were very long and
wiggling around trying to get out of the toilet bowl,” she said.
The teenage girl’s
mother turned white when she saw what her daughter had passed. The guilty
mother apologized to her daughter and told her daughter that she had just
wanted her to make her a little skinnier before the beauty pageant.
According to the doctor of
Public Health’s Iowa Department, Dr. Patricia Quinlisk, says the application of
tapeworms for weight loss is extremely unsafe.
