[Sports] Daredevil fan climbs onto fence at NASCAR race

A brave fan climbs onto the fence at Richmond International Raceway last Saturday and made himself really comfortable.

NASCAR races have always had its “unique” moments. A pace race was once stolen from the Talladega Superspeedway. A hole appeared on the track mid-race during Daytona 500. Just last weekend a cat ran onto the track during the race, just ahead of then race leader Kevin Harvick.

Another “unique” incident happened at Richmond International Raceway Saturday night.

With 70 laps remaining in the race, NASCAR officials have to put the drivers on caution.

Why? One daring fan climbed the fence, which separates the track from the audience stand. Officials eventually brought down the fan, which was shirtless, after the race was slowed down under a yellow flag.

After the race, both the racers and the crew chiefs commented on the strange event.

“Those Virginia folks,” joked Kevin Harvick, who was with Denny Hamlin, who was a Virginia native, at the Richmond media center.

"That caution put me two laps down," Hamlin complained. "Knucklehead."

Harvick stated that it used to be normal to see incidents like this. He recalled the time he won the first race, there was a grandstand hanging onto the fence. He didn’t remember the officials throwing in a caution back then.

Reace winner Brad Keselowski didn’t even notice the shirtless fan, which shock him when he heard about it.

"Somebody climbed the fence?" he said when asked. "The Miller Lite was working. That's my reaction: Wow! That's something. Wonder if he got a selfie."

RIR officials has announced that the man has been arrested by the Henrico County police, disorderly conduct and being drunk in public being the charges. However a name was never released. They also said that they would check on the security measures at the track.
