[WORLDWIDE] 18 Year Old Indian Teen Marriage With A Stray Dog


INDIA - An 18 year old young teenage girl has married a stray dog following the beliefs of warding off an evil curse.

18-year-old Mangli Munda comes from a remote village located at the eastern Indian State of Jharkhand. The villagers feared that she carries a curse of causing the death of any man who married her. They believed that by marrying a dog is the only way to get rid off the bad luck.

"I am not happy with the marriage. I am marrying the dog because the elders in the village believed that it's the only way that my evil curse will be passed on to the dog." Mangli, being honest with her thoughts about her marriage. 

Mangli's family also agreed that the wedding should be carried on to free her from the curse. 

Mangli's father Sri Amnmunda found a stray dog and named it "Sheru" then made him the groom for his daughter's marriage in a traditional Hindu wedding. Sri also stated that this is not the first time that a local girl is married to a stray dog in the village. According to the village's rules, Mangli is free to marry any guy after the marriage without divorcing the dog.

Mangli said that she was told that many of the girls in her village has went through the same ritual as her and gotten rid of the evil curse then was believed to live happier now. 

At the wedding ceremony, people danced to traditional drumming. A number of 70 relatives and villagers attended the ceremony.

"Although the groom is a dog but we still followed all the customs. We respect the dog as much as we respect a normal groom,” said Mangli's mother, Seems Devi.

She also stated that they spent the same amount of money in the same way as they would in a normal wedding. 

With the marriage ceremony over, Mangli has to carry the responsibility to take care of her 'husband' and raise him as a pet for the following few months. 


Mangli added: 'I will marry a man one day. It is a dream of every girl to marry a prince charming, so do I."
