Dyer
Country High School suspended a girl named Kendra Turner after saying “bless
you” to her classmate who sneezed. She is told by her class teacher that “bless
you” is only used in church.
According
to WMC, Ms. Turner said that her teacher told her that godly speaking are not
allowed in her class and that’s when Ms. Turner said she has a legitimate
right.
Ms.
Turner was sent to in-school suspension after meeting the school officials. She
said that she stood up for her religious conviction and was only defending her
actions.

A list of
banned expressions such as “I don’t know, “bless you”, my bad” boring” and “other
peer expressions” was written on the teacher’s whiteboard.
Ms.
Turner’s parents was told by the school officials that it was an undisciplined outburst
when their daughter shouted “bless you” across the classroom.
Still, Ms.
Turner and her parents assume that the teacher doesn’t believe in religions.
Becky Winegradner, Ms. Turner’s parson, reminded the students
that they have their rights.
Since
then, some of the students in Dyer Country Highschool wear “Bless You” t-shirts
to school to support Ms. Turner.
The
school authorities met with Ms. Turner’s family after Ms Turner was suspended
not even in a week, and they were told that the Year 12 student had been
troublesome.
Ms.
Turner told WMCA that they have a freedom of religion and freedom of speech so it’s
alright to defend God and it’s their legitimate right.
